Summer time in Lake Tahoe.  The north shore of Lake Tahoe on the beach at the Hyatt Hotel could almost be the French Riviera.   You are able to set up camp for the day, order food at your lounger, and just while away the time reading, watching the kids play with sand, and going for occasional dips - chilly dips, but still, no body suit required.  And best of all, if you are absolutely addicted to work, you can still check email with the wireless access. 

The best part though has to be the swimming.  The luxury of going into the water without a body suit in northern California can't be underestimated.  What's even more amazing is being able to open up your eyes underwater and realizing you're in fresh water.  Be careful with kids though - the lake depth falls off rapidly, and you can be fully submerged as close as 30 feet from the shore.
