While in India, this past summer (2005) my family and I went on a small tour, starting in Mumbai (better known as Bombay). Both the sites and the shopping of Bombay are fabulous. Anyone who is looking for nice Indian merchandise of any kind - clothes, idols, decorations, food, etc. - can find it here at a low price. Also, Marine Drive is a must visit. Although not the best beaches, the cultural (mainly food) experience is worth it. I highly recommend taking the full day bus tour, which will cover all the main sites and stops for lunch at a good restaurant.
