Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka. It is located within the ruins of the Vijaynagara empire, near the former capital of the empire, the city Vijaynagara. The village is an important religious center for Hindus, housing the Virupaksha temple. It also contains many other important monuments and sites of the empire which have been collectively declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Hampi, "the City of Ruins" is also identified with the mythological Kishkindha from the Hindu epic Ramayana as the monkey kingdom.

Here are a few of the many wonderful sites. The detail that was put into all of these sites centuries ago will astound you.
