transit in hong kong.

I had a 7 hour transit stop in Hong Kong and after checking out the Hong Kong Tourism Board website at www.discoverhongkong.com I decided to go with one of their 5 hour transit tours.

Provided you're a national of a country whose citizens arent required to obtain visas for travelling to Hong Kong, you can sign up for a tour the moment you land in Hong Kong. The tour provider has very comfortable air conditioned buses available and you even get a tour guide. Provided on your luck and flight schedules, you can end up sharing the tour guide with as few as four other people! Individual attention is the best thing since sliced bread, in my opinion :)

The tour takes you around Mainland Hong Kong and along the harbor. You get to ride a ferry across the water in the harbor and can walk along the promenade where they've got memorials to famous Hong kong movie stars, including.... Jackie Chan! :D Just look for the star with the most people standing around it!

The tour also features a visit to a temple which is supposed to be the oldest in Hong Kong. Indeed, it does seem out of place, a squat structure surrounded by highrise buildings on all sides! The inside of the temple is filled with rows and rows of incense offerings. In fact, the haziness in the pictures is all from incense smoke. People with weak respiratory systems, prepare to be overwhelmed!

If you're lucky, you'll get to visit Hong Kong on a day when there isnt too much fog. Unfortunately, I wasnt that lucky and while the opposite side of the harbor wasnt too visible, I could still make out enough of the Hong Kong skyline to be satisfied with my trip.

A highly recommended alternate to lounging around the Hong Kong airport and sipping tea :)
