Harrison Lake - Nature Uninterrupted

Where?

Harrison Lake is (as the name suggests) located in the small village of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. Last weekend, I visited the beautiful lake with a bunch of friends.

How to get there?

Harrison is about a 45 minute drive from Abbotsford. Abbotsford is about an hour and a half hour drive from Vancouver. (Consequently, Harrison is NOT a 2 hour 15 minute drive from Vancouver.) Both the Greyhound and the Super Shuttle will take you from Vancouver to Harrison, but if you're a nature-lover, I suggest you drive there, just so you may stop at scenic spots and drink in the beauty of the drive to Harrison.

When to go there?

Summer, Summer and only Summer! Spring may work too (though this time we didn't really HAVE a Spring but that's a story for a weather blog!)

What to do there?

There's basically three things to do there:

Just enjoy nature - There's a smaller lake (Photo #8) next to Harrison Lake that you can take a swim in. Don't forget to bring a bucket to help build your sand castle. Visit Harrison "Hot Springs" - There are 2 hot springs that the village is named after; "Potash" and "Sulphur" once again, named after the minerals found in the water. (Yes, not a lot of creativity in the naming here, but they can be excused!) Attend the annual Sand Sculpture competition - This is held every September apparently, though there seems to be some event going on right now that I'm going to see if I can check out soon!!!

But whatever you go there to do, DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE YOUR CAMERA! I took lots of photos, but the ones with people in it truly spoil the serenity.

Moral of my trip

I was humbled by the simplistic beauty of nature. Sometimes I hope that such places remained undiscovered, just so man would not fiddle with nature's business. But let's wish Harrison Hot Springs keeps looking this way for decades to come.
