hawaii is any foodie’s dream. seafood? amazing. due to its diverse population, hawaii was one of the first to try its hand at creating fusion dishes, combining asian, european, and hawaiian ingredients to create a pacific fusion type of cuisine. that said there are still many little gems scattered throughout the island, mostly mom and pop restaurants that are invisible to the tourists, and relatively unknown to even the locals. there is a hole in the wall thai restaurant located near the pali highway called “bangkok chef” that is absolutely amazing. while it is a little far from chinatown, this neighborhood restaurant serves cheap ($5-$8) thai dishes, mainly for take-outs, with huge servings. extremely popular with the locals around the area, and even for those who aren’t, this new little restaurant is one of hawaii’s gems.
