One of the great (and most beautiful) cities of the Mughal Empire, and home to the third of the "Red Forts" built by the dynasty (Delhi, Agra, and Fatehpur). The city was briefly the capital of the empire and is only 26 miles from Agra. Fatehpur Sikri's beautiful Jama Masjid (mosque) was built as a replica of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina and houses the tomb of Saleem Chishti, one of the great Sufi Muslim saints, to which thousands of pilgrims of all faiths flock each day. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
